What’s New/Open
A few recent additions to our dining scene include:
- Back When Cafe (606 N 3rd St) offers New American cuisine and has been in operation since 1991. Dinner is served Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. until close.
- Red Eye Brewing Company (612 Washington St) is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until close, providing a selection of craft beers and food.
- Ciao (307 N 3rd St) specializes in Italian cuisine, with highlights including house-made pasta and seafood.
- Taqueria Tres Hermanos (525 Fulton St) is known for its authentic Mexican dishes, including praised green salsa.
- Sam’s Pizza (111 Elm St) has been a local staple since 1958, offering dine-in and carry-out options.
- Sixth Street Filling Station (1314 N 6th St) is recognized as a brunch spot, serving breakfast and lunch.
- Lemongrass Asian Fusion (316 N 3rd St) presents a bar and Asian fusion dishes in a modern setting.
- Blue Willow Cafe (1111 N 4th Ave) is a family-style diner known for its comfort food.
- 2510 Restaurant (2510 Stewart Ave) is a full-service restaurant, bakery, and deli.
- Wausau Mine Company (3904 W. Stewart Ave) serves a variety of made-from-scratch dishes daily.
- Hiawatha Social (713 Grant St) opened in July 2026 and features supper-club staples and craft cocktails.
- Westsider Lounge (628 N. 3rd Ave) serves cocktails and hosts events like live music.
- Faraway Place (408 N. 3rd St) offers locally sourced burgers and features live music.
- Oasis Arcade (102 Jefferson St) combines an arcade experience with a full bar and food menu.
- Mint Cafe (422 N 3rd St) continues to be popular for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
What’s Reportedly Closed or Changed
- Biggby Coffee at 3140 Rib Mountain Drive was reported closed on October 25 after nearly 16 years, with employees transferring to the remaining location in Wausau at 320 E. Bridge St. (Wausau Pilot & Review).
- Charlie’s Texas Smokehouse Bar & Grill, located at 235415 Chico Road, was destroyed by fire on October 22, resulting in a total loss of the building. No information about its future has been provided (Wausau Pilot & Review).
