The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point says its annual Fall Candlelight Hike will take place Oct. 30 at Schmeeckle Reserve in Stevens Point, with torch-lit trails, activities and crafts from 6 to 9 p.m.
According to the university, the event will be held at 2419 North Point Drive and will carry the theme “The Great Schmeeckle Bake Off.” The announcement says visitors can follow jack-o’-lantern- and torch-lit trails, attend character programs at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., and enjoy snacks and crafts. UW-Stevens Point suggests donations of $4 per person or $10 per family to support future Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve events, programs and projects.
The university says event parking will be available in the reserve’s overflow lot and along North Point Drive, Michigan Avenue and Maria Drive. The paved Visitor Center lot is reserved for people with disabilities or other special needs, according to the announcement.
UW-Stevens Point also lists free public nature programs led by its natural resources students. The remaining October programs include “Life of Chattering Chipmunks” on Oct. 16, 5-6 p.m., at Menzel Pavilion; “So, You Want to Be a Fur Trader?” on Oct. 18, 10-11 a.m., at Pankowski Friends Amphitheater; and “Jellyfish Galore” on Oct. 20, 5-6 p.m., at Lake Joanis Fishing Pier, according to the university.
